TELESAR V enables a user to bind with a dexterous robot and experience what that robot can feel with its fingertips when manipulating and touching objects remotely.
3D Capturing Using Multi-Camera Rigs, Real-Time Depth Estimation, and Depth-Based Content Creation for Multi-View and Light-Field Auto-Stereoscopic Displays

This futuristic system captures live HD footage with a wide-baseline multi-camera rig and estimates the depth map of the captured video streams based on which content is generated and presented on auto-stereoscopic 3D displays.
Tensor Displays: Compressive Light-Field Synthesis Using Multilayer Displays With Directional Backlighting

This new light-field-display technology system uses stacks of time-multiplexed, attenuating layers illuminated by uniform or directional backlighting optimized with non-negative tensor factorization. Tensor displays achieve greater depths of field, wider fields of view, and thinner enclosures compared to prior auto-multiscopic displays.
Gosen: A Handwritten Notation Interface for Musical Performance and Learning Music

Since the 1960s, Optical Music Recognition (OMR) has matured for printed scores, but research on handwritten notation and interactive OMR has been limited. By combining notation with performance, Gosen makes music more intuitive and accessible.
BOTANICUS INTERACTICUS: Interactive Plants Technology

BOTANICUS INTERACTICUS is a technology for designing highly expressive interactive plants, both living and artificial. With a single wire placed anywhere in the soil, it transforms plants into multi-touch, gesture-sensitive, and proximity-sensitive controllers that can track a broad range of human interactions seamlessly, unobtrusively, and precisely.
Ungrounded Haptic Rendering Device for Torque Simulation in Virtual Tennis

This interactive virtual tennis system utilizes an ungrounded haptic device to render the ball impact accelerations and torques experienced in real tennis. Novel features include the A-shaped vibrating element with high-power actuators. The application utilizes racket mass distribution and high-amplitude bending for torque generation and haptic rendering.

The HeartBeats Watch

Stretching or shrinking hours with the beat of your heart, the HeartBeats Watch is a timepiece in which time is modified in duration according to the wearer’s heartbeat, evoking the emotional complexity of time and the human body because “time slows when I’m with you, and time flies, and time stops with every heartbeat.”
Kapitän Biopunk: Fermentation Madness

Kapitän Biopunk: Fermentation Madness is an artistic research project, manifested in the form of an acoustic and performance installation that responds to the high number of poisonings and deaths of alcohol consumers in Indonesia. The project is a collaborative art and biotechnology work, using DIY and open-source technologies intended to give the public an awareness of the local traditional culture of alcohol and to distribute knowledge of safe alcohol fermentation processes in order to produce alcoholic drinks with the richness of Indonesian tropical fruit in an affordable and safe way.

This work consists of a two-minute laser-animation loop in which a snail invents the wheel and goes through a cultural evolution to finally get back to its origin. The animation is projected at an angle of 360° onto a column, so that the audience has to walk around it to follow the course of the snail. The projection surface is of a phosphorescent material, which creates an after-glowing trail that fades out slowly.

90° South provides a contemplative point of view that allows us to witness and be immersed in the constant evolution of a growing landscape. The piece utilizes an irrigation system in conjunction with a highly absorbent material called sodium polyacrylate to produce the slow emergence of a landscape. A thin layer of the white material is placed on top of a round surface. When water reaches the surface, the sodium polyacrylate expands 300 times, producing subtle undulations. The profiles of these miniature mountains are projected on the walls of the gallery by a flashlight attached to a rotating mechanism.

A Planetary Order is a terrestrial globe showing clouds from one single moment in time, thereby subtly highlighting the fragility and interdependence of the Earth’s environmental systems.
Sustainable Cinema No. 4: Shadow Play
Scott Hessels, School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong
The wind-powered Shadow Play is a kinetic public sculpture that harnesses sustainable energy to generate a moving image. By using natural power to re-create an early art form that led to the beginnings of cinema, the sculpture references the histories of both motion pictures and industrialization. The artwork explores a possible future of environmentally responsible media, looking forward by looking back.
