Fabricating Articulated Characters From Skinned Meshes

Articulated characters are widespread in computer animation, but we lack methods for automatic fabrication of articulated 3D models using modern 3D printers. Ths paper proposes a method for estimating a fabricatable single material and a colored volume model that approximates the kinematics of a virtual 3D articulated character (for example, a skinned character).

Plastic Trees: Interactive Self-Adapting Botanical Tree Models

A dynamic tree-modeling and representation technique that allows complex tree models to interact with their environment interactively. The method uses changes in light distribution and proximity to solid obstacles and other trees to impose biologically motivated transformations of the tree’s branches and foliage.
