With the SIGGRAPH 2017 Call for Submissions now open, our annual conference is moving from concept to reality, and it will be no time before we gather in Los Angeles to celebrate, learn and be amazed at the innovation and creativity of our community.
The ACM SIGGRAPH Digital Arts Community is seeking projects for an online exhibition exploring the web browser as a medium for creative works of virtual reality. The exhibition, called "Immersive Expressions: Virtual Reality on the Web" will open in May 2017. Submissions to the show will be accepted until March 7, 2017, with notifications for accepted works going out three weeks after the deadline.
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of David Arnold, longtime ACM SIGGRAPH member and Fellow of the Eurographics Association.
According to a communication from the Cultural Informatics Research Group at the University of Brighton, where David served as Director of Research Initiatives and Dean of Brighton Doctoral College, he passed away suddenly on the night of October 25, 2016.

The 2016 VIEW Award winners have been announced. Citing director Chen Chen’s ability to create an expressive story without dialog, a story with layers of meaning, and an animation style that is perfect for the design, the jury awarded “Vieil Ours” (Old Bear) the 2016 VIEW Award. Chen Chen will receive the first prize of 2000 Euros. The 11:32 minute film was produced in 2016 by Citron Bien and distributed by Yummy Films. Pierre Dron was the producer.

On October 20, 2016, the Visual Effects Society (VES), the industry’s professional global honorary society, named multiple Academy Award®-winning visual effects pioneer Ken Ralston as the recipient of the VES Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his enormous contributions to filmed entertainment. The award will be presented at the 15th Annual VES Awards on February 7, 2017 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
The upcoming ACM SIGGRAPH conference Motion in Games 2016 will take place in San Francisco, California, from October 10-12. Motion in Games brings together researchers from a variety of fields to present their most recent results, initiate collaborations, and contribute to the establishment of new research areas. This year's MIG conference is co-located with the Twelfth Annual AAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Interactive Digital Entertainment, providing further opportunities for networking.

MetroCAF is the annual NYC Metropolitan Area College Computer Animation Festival, organized by the New York City chapter of ACM SIGGRAPH. On Friday, September 23, at 7:00PM, MetroCAF 2016 will premiere in New York City.
The 2016 ACM SIGGRAPH election results have been announced. The winning candidates for the three open director-at-large positions are as follows:

University of Maryland
School of Computer Science
Boulder Graphics LLC
The incoming directors-at-large will each serve three-year terms running from September 1, 2016 to August 31, 2019.
SIGGRAPH 2016 content is now available for free in the ACM Digital Library for a one-month period that began two weeks before the conference, and will end a week after it concludes. Following this one-month "free access" window, the content is available at no cost in perpetuity, exclusively through open access links on SIGGRAPH.org.
